The Dublin City Tenancy Sustainment team works to reduce the number of people becoming homeless. We also support people who have recently moved from homelessness into accommodation.
The Dublin City Tenancy Sustainment service is a unique partnership between Dublin Simon and Dublin City Council, a co-operation based on a shared understanding of prevention as the best cure. This initiative was born out of the Homeless Agency’s second action plan, Making it Home.
We work with single people, couples and families.
We receive referrals from Dublin City Council and other agencies working with those at risk of becoming homeless and those who have recently moved out of homelessness.
A Tenancy Sustainment worker will meet with the prospective client (and someone from the referring agency) to ensure that this service is what the client wants and that it can meet their expectations.
Anyone who wishes to avail of this service can also contact us directly.
Priority will be given to people most excluded from homeless support services and to those currently moving out of homelessness.
We operate as a multi-disciplinary team, working closely with tenants to develop individualised Care Plans. Progress is evaluated regularly in order to ensure the needs of our service-users are being met.
The Dublin City Tenancy Sustainment Team emphasises the importance of early intervention to prevent homelessness. The length of engagement with a client is restricted to a period of six to nine months.
A team of specially trained volunteers works closely with staff, mainly to combat the isolation and loneliness that are so often contributing causes of homelessness. Volunteer activities may include home visits, cultural excursions (such as museum visits or trips to the cinema), or accompanying service users shopping or on a walk.
Staff work with service-users to complete a broad and detailed needs assessment. Each client is assigned a member of staff who will work with them to devise a Care Plan.
The approach of tenancy sustainment is to focus on practical ways to sustain tenancies, rather than seeking to solve all client problems.
A Care Plan is designed and agreed with the service user which covers a wide range of areas including:
We get referrals from across Dublin Simon services and make referrals to Dublin Simon Detox and Alcohol Aftercare Services.
