The Dublin Simon Emergency Shelter provides accommodation for 30 men and women who are homeless.
Through taking referrals from our Rough Sleeper Team and the Dublin City Council Nightbus (which locates homeless people in the city centre) we ensure that we reach our target group of vulnerable rough sleepers.
The Dublin Simon Emergency Shelter is open 24/7. We provide a place of respite from the trials and dangers of rough-sleeping and support and information to enable our service-users to improve their quality of life and opportunities.
Service-users can stay for up to six months. We provide breakfast, hot cooked lunches and dinners, and snacks are available throughout the day. There are two TV rooms, one where alcohol can be consumed.
Residents can come and go as they please. Staff are available for advice or a friendly chat, around the clock. Volunteers visit the Shelter in the evenings, offering companionship and also take service users on trips to the cinema or out for a bit of quasar..
Every resident is assigned a member of staff who will continue to work with them throughout their stay.
Staff and residents together devise individualised Care Plans with help from the Rough Sleeper Team which cover anything that might impede a move into appropriate long term accomodation: from health and social welfare entitlements to basic life-skills and training and employment.
The Dublin Simon Key Workers makes regular visits to the Emergency Shelter, where they meet with service users to begin locating accommodation options appropriate to their needs. We also refer clients to the Dublin Simon Alcohol Detox and Rehab projects. If a service user chooses to leave and return to the street they will continue to receive the support of our Rough Sleeper Team or they may choose to link in with the Learning and Development Team.
