Dublin Simon Community Euro 2016 app aims to keep fans safe in France this summer

Free app is now available for fans to download on Android

Ahead of Ireland’s game against Sweden this evening (13 June), the Dublin Simon Community are delighted to announce that their ‘Simon’s Green Army’ app is now available for fans to download for FREE on Android from the Google Play Store.

While providing useful information for Irish fans abroad, the app informs fans about the services that the Dublin Simon Community provide and the growing issue of homelessness back home.

The app was developed by Andy O’Sullivan, an app developer based in Dublin and a supporter of the Dublin Simon Community.

Speaking about the idea behind the app, Andy O’Sullivan said:

“I didn’t want to just create another generic football app. I wanted to provide a service to fans travelling to France this summer that would help them stay safe and having an enjoyable time while supporting the Boys in Green at Euro2016. I wanted to help fans prepare for the worst and give them all the support that they would need in case of an emergency.

“The app allows fans to share their location with their loved ones back home and let them know that they are safe and happy. They can also access maps of all of the host cities, set a meeting point for friends and much more.”

Andy added: “I developed the app for free and asked the Dublin Simon Community would they like to come on board as the charity partner. I hope it raises some much needed money for their services, because it’s not acceptable in 2016 that thousands of people don’t have a safe place of their own to call home.”
