Master’s in Nursing with a specialisation in Wound Management and Tissue Viability
Congratulations to one of our incredible nurses from our Primary Care Nursing Team, Forget Topa. He has recently completed his Master’s in Nursing with a specialisation in Wound Management and Tissue Viability from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI)!
We are incredibly proud of Forget’s dedication to expanding his expertise, as well as having such a highly qualified professional on our team. Forget’s achievement not only highlights the calibre of our staff but also reinforces our commitment to providing the best possible care for our clients. He explains how this programme will improve his role and have a direct benefit to our clients:
“While treating our clients, I noticed that the majority have various complex wounds such as diabetic foot ulcers, abscesses, and venous and arterial leg ulcers, all of which require specialised nursing care. Statistics for our Primary Care Services also demonstrate that wound care comprised over 50% of the reasons for nursing intervention in our long-term and short-term accommodations during the second half of 2023. Currently, we oversee more than 200 clients, over six of the Dublin Simon accommodations.
Having this specialised knowledge on wound management and tissue viability will help me to provide better care for clients within Dublin Simon Community’s services by:
- preventing potential tissue damage.
- giving expert advice on various wound types.
- promoting research-based practices, policies, and standards pertaining to tissue viability and quality practice.”
