Dublin Simon Community Welcomes Budget Measures for Housing & Homelessness
Dublin, 13 October 2020: Homelessness charity, Dublin Simon Community, welcomes announcements in today’s Budget that aim to increase housing stock, support the prevention of entry into homelessness and deliver rental supports.
Speaking today, CEO of Dublin Simon Community, Sam McGuinness, said: “We welcome the increased funding in today’s budget for the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to a record amount of €5.2bn.”
“This funding is being committed for vital support and prevention services such as the delivery of increased social housing, rent support schemes for struggling tenants, emergency beds and cold weather initiatives funding for rough sleepers.”
“We welcome the priority focused on one-bedroom accommodation which will provide critical housing for the rising number of single adults in the homeless population. “
“Health investment is also essential for the sector and measures such as the investment of €38 million in the national mental health strategy, Sharing the Vision’ is also welcomed.”
“We will continue to ensure that the announcements in today’s budget are implemented and allocated to immediate effect.”
