The Irish Meteorological Service has issued a Status Orange wind warning for Leinster, Cavan, Donegal, Monaghan, which will be in effect from 10pm on Friday the 6th of December until 10am on Saturday the 7th of December. Additionally, the service has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Clare, Connacht, Donegal, Cavan, Monaghan, Longford, Louth, Meath, and Westmeath from 10pm on Friday the 6th of December until 10am on Saturday the 7th of December.
Potential impacts from the windy conditions include fallen trees, damage to power lines, very difficult travelling conditions, damage to temporary structures, and wave overtopping. The increased rainfall may lead to localised flooding, poor visibility, and difficult travelling conditions.
Dublin Simon Community is urging the public to exercise the utmost caution as Storm Darragh hits Ireland. We are asking people to be particularly mindful of those experiencing homelessness at this time, especially those who may be sleeping rough. As these extreme weather conditions pose serious risks to health and safety, we will be working throughout the duration of the storm to protect those who are most vulnerable.
Our Outreach Team, which operates 365 days a year, will prioritise those most at risk during this storm. We are asking the public to help us support people who may be sleeping rough, particularly in more isolated areas of Dublin city centre and the suburbs. Use the Rough Sleeper Alerts app, available on iPhones and Androids, to let us know about someone in need. For anyone who is rough sleeping or at risk outside the Dublin region, please contact your relevant local authority for support.
