Remembering former Chairperson of Dublin Simon Community, Mr Justice Robert (Bobby) Eagar

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of former Chairperson of Dublin Simon Community, Mr Justice Robert (Bobby) Eagar.

Bobby retired from the Four Courts in January 2023 after 40 years of practicing law in Dublin. He served as the Chair of the Dublin Simon Board from 1987 to 1989. During this time, he oversaw the completion and operation of the original Usher’s Island emergency shelter in 1989. He was also a founder of the Irish Refugee Council.

Commenting on his passing, current Chair of the Board Barry McKimm said:

“On behalf of Dublin Simon Community I extend our sympathy to Bobby’s family. Bobby gave immense time and consideration as a committed volunteer to Dublin Simon and in particular to the development and professionalisation of the charity in the mid to late eighties. His contribution to Irish public life has been extensive. He will be remembered for his strong social conscience, devotion to public service and compassion for others.”
